“I think the artists sometimes do feel a lot of pressure to like, you know, bring utility to their collectors and like they'll feel bad if the floor price is down and then whoever collected previously paid more for a piece or whatever. art gm #77 - disastercut: Xerox Distortion 🖨️

1/ DC is an artist who uses xerography to create intricate black and white artwork that reflect future dystopia. Their work visualizes themes like destruction, technological dependency, pessimistic futurism & mass impending doom.

2/ I vibe with DC's art because their process of creation results in incredible textures, shadows & patterns and allows them to pack so much detail into each piece. For instance, the majority of their subjects' faces reveal motherboards, accentuating the notion of tech dependency.

3/ A great entry into DC's work is through 'Crusher' (Nifty Gateway link). The level of detail on this piece is insane. The gritty vibe given off by the tattered flag, glitched bird & skeleton crew play well into the seriousness that is the destruction of war.

4/ If I had unlimited ETH I would cop 'Doomtech' (Foundation link). A boy sits in front of a wall of interconnected modules, his look saying "this is our life now, this is reality". The spider necklace suggests impending doom, the butterflies represent a last glimpse of hope.

5/ You should scope out DC's work because I've personally never seen anything like it. Their art is crisp and pops, which is impressive given the b&w nature of their work. Their themes are worth sitting with, displaying the worst of the future in the most beautiful way possible.

Here are 6 opportunities to submit to (click hyperlinks):

• Save Art Space is hosting a call for artists for New York Billboards with a theme of Plant/Human Hybridity. Only still images are accepted, and the deadline is June 19, 2023. The exhibition will take place on August 21, 2023. It is open to all digital artists internationally, with a $10 entry fee.

• Innovate Grant is offering a grant opportunity for digital/traditional art and photography. All art mediums are accepted, and the theme is open. The deadline is June 22, 2023. Two artists will receive a $1800 grant, and there is a $35 entry fee.

• Cue Art Foundation is calling for artists for a solo gallery show in Manhattan. The theme is open, and the exhibition will run throughout 2024. It is open to US-based artists, with a $10 entry fee. The deadline is June 30, 2023.

• Circ Artist Grant is offering a grant opportunity for digital art (still images only) with an open theme. The deadline is June 30, 2023. Two artists will receive a $1000 grant, and there is a $25 entry fee. It is open to all digital artists internationally.

• The Niels Bohr Institute is hosting an artist residency in Copenhagen, Denmark, focused on arts and science. The theme is black holes, gravitational waves, and time. The residency length is 3 months, and the deadline is July 1, 2023. It is open to all digital artists internationally, with travel costs and accommodation included. There is no entry fee.

• The Boynes Artist Award is an art prize specifically for photography. The theme is open, and the deadline is July 30, 2023. It is open to all photographers internationally. The award is $2000, with an entry fee of $28/35.
